Murray Dairy Strategic Priorities
The Murray Dairy Board develops a Strategic Plan every three years as a foundation for the organisation's priority setting and programs. The current Strategic Plan was developed in 2017 and is due to be reviewed in 2020 in alignment with the Future Focus - Regional Dairy Industry Strategy and the Australian Dairy Plan.

Strategic Priorities
Murray Dairy’s strategic plan for 2016–17 to 2019–20 is committed to its vision of supporting the region in building profitable and valued dairy business. This plan is built on three strategic priorities:
- Growing skills and capability in the Murray Dairy region
- Protecting and promoting the dairy industry in the Murray Dairy region
- Strengthening Murray Dairy’s partnerships
1. Growing skills and capability in the Murray Dairy Region
Building the skills and capability of the dairy industry, including farmers, farm employees and the broader service sector, is the major strategic priority of Murray Dairy and accounts for 70% of its expenditure.
Murray Dairy delivers programs in the areas of:
- Feedbase and Animal Nutrition
- Animal Performance
- Land, Water and Climate
- Farm Business Management
- People and Workforce
2. Protecting and promoting the dairy industry in the Murray Dairy Region
Activities in the Murray Dairy region will build on and implement the initiatives taken at a national scale to maintain the industry’s social licence to operate, respond and recover from emergencies and to attract people to work in the industry.
This includes:
- Disaster response and recovery
- Biosecurity
- Animal welfare
- Careers and employment opportunities
- Encouraging and supporting new entrants
3. Strengthening Murray Dairy’s partnerships
As Murray Dairy is one of many organisations that provide services and resources to dairy farmers in the region, opportunities exist to build on existing collaborations to attract more resources, improve delivery, access additional successful programs and skills to better meet the needs of dairy farmers in the region.

Future Focus - Dairy Industry Strategy
Murray Region 2019
Future Focus brings together what the industry must collectively focus on to support a strong, confident, agile and forward-looking dairy industry in the Murray region in a single plan. Future Focus is designed to directly contribute to and be aligned with Murray Dairy's Strategic Plan, the Australian Dairy Plan and other state and industry plans.
Future Focus provides direction for all organisations working for the good of the dairy industry in the region, including industry, all levels of government and regional economic development entities, to consolidate and grow the industry and align support across regional communities.
Developed in consultation with the broader industry and community, Future Focus identifies six key themes to coordinate effort, guide investment and ensure a long-term sustainable future.
